Michael Hector Teams Up With Matt Stone Racing

After two rounds of the 2013 Dunlop Series, Newcastle based business identity Michael Hector has changed teams from NMS to Matt Stone Racing. The Gulf Western Oil sponsored driver will see his ex-Stone Bros FG Falcon in an expanded three car team run by the Queensland based squad. The ex-Scott McLaughlin 2012 Dunlop Series championship winning car has been in the hands of Hector since the beginning of the season, but by his own admission Hector has not unlocked the performance of the car and package so far this year.

“The SBR Falcon is one of the best cars on the grid this year, but the first two rounds which has seen the car well back in the pack but taking into consideration this is only my third year racing anything I expected us to be further up the field. We have really good sponsors that deserve a lot better showing than our current position so the commercial decision was made to enter into a multi-year deal with Matt Stone Racing.” Hector commented.

“I have left NMS on good terms and my business partner Shane and I will continue to sponsor Aaren Russell in his CEG Rentals & Carrington Equipment Falcon and would like to thank all the team for their support throughout 2012 and the start of 2013.”

“Matt Stone has built his team into one of the strongest in the field in a very short time. He has a great crew and with Jimmy Stone also involved the knowledge of the car and how to unlock its performance is undoubted. This made the decision for MSR to run my car an obvious choice. SBR has been known for over 20 years to run and manufacture high quality equipment and to be one of the most professional teams in pit lane, it has become obvious that Matt Stone Racing is running their business with the same business strategies that have proven to be so successful with Ashley Walsh leading the championship and George Miedecke in 6th.” Hector concluded.

A recent test day with Matt Stone Racing at Queensland Raceway paid immediate dividends with Gulf Western Oils FG producing better times on old tyres than the times that the team had achieved in 2012 on new tyres.

“The car was great, for me it was like jumping into another car! MSR did a fantastic job. The transformation in performance was a big shock for me as I have been literally fighting with the Gulf Western Oils Falcon for the first two rounds. To jump in the car that did everything right was a big relief.” Hector added.

Round 3 of the 2013 Dunlop Series will be held at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 on July 5 – 7.
