Frustrating End To Novocastrian’s Season

A PROMISING run in the final round of the 2012 Dunlop V8 Supercar Series ended in disappointment for Michael Hector at Homebush.

There was good news for Michael Hector, who recorded his best round result of the season, 11th.

Capping his first season in the series, Michael Hector qualified his Carrington Equipment / CEG Rentals Falcon in 18th position. On the weekend’s first racing lap, Hector was an innocent victim in another driver’s accident and had to pit for repairs, before working his way back to 15th. After copping a hit at Turn 9 from Nandi Kiss, Hector had to regroup again in Race 2, but recovered to finish 14th and secure 11th for the weekend.

The new Dunlop V8 Supercar Series kicks off at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500 on 28 February to 3 March.

“With Winton and Homebush, I’ve improved my personal best round results in each of the last two rounds, which is really satisfying. The whole year has been about learning and making progress.

“Being involved in incidents in each race was very frustrating as we had good pace; the car was great and our lap-times would have put us further up the order. It’s a tough gig, on Saturday we had temperatures in the car up around 60 degrees, which is very physically and mentally demanding. I’ve been involved in a lot of sport at high levels during my life, but this is the most draining, it’s a credit to all of the drivers.

“Overall, I’ve learned a lot this year and really enjoyed working with the whole team. I will enjoy a break now for eight weeks then get back into testing my new car.”
