Gulf Western Oil V8 Supercar driver Michael Hector heads to Bathurst looking forward to competing on the first endurance race in the Dunlop Series – Wilson MedicOne Enduro. Fresh from a very productive test day with the Matt Stone Racing prepared Falcon FG, Hector is confident the longer format will suit him rather than the shorter ‘sprint’ style races.
The Dunlop Series – Wilson MedicOne Enduro is a 250km race which will see the Dunlop Series V8 Supercars undertake Pit Stops, refuelling and tyre changing for the first time. The teams are partnered up with the main series teams and Matt Stone’s cars will be in art serviced by the Dick Johnson Racing Team crew.
2014 has seen Hector build a strong race package with many excellent drives through the field. He has found the cut throat Qualifying sessions have compromised starting positions as getting that one quick lap has been elusive. The longer format on the wide open Mt panorama track will suit Michael’s consistent lap times, a point he proved when he tackled the Bathurst 12 hour in a Class B Porsche earlier this year.
“Our test last week went really well. We ran around 70 laps in what has been my best test day with the Gulf Western Oil / MSR team. We focused on mid corner and exit speeds and picked up a lot of time in an area I have struggled with this year. I felt very comfortable in the car and the times were consistent over long runs.
“The Wilson MedicOne Enduro will be a fascinating race. Many of the guys in the Dunlop Series have not done Pit Stops under race conditions and there will be a lot going on in the pits if there are Safety Cars. I feel the B12 Hour race was very worthwhile in long running here and after our test day I think we can really punch out a good result for the Gulf Western Oil team.” Michael commented prior to practice at Bathurst.
